[mehr]Sand Key is one of the chain of barrier islands lying off the western coast of Florida adjacent to Clearwater. It is separated from Clearwater Beach by Clearwater Pass, the inlet from the Gulf of Mexico which connects to the Intercoastal Waterway. Nearly one hundred acres of parkland and public beach constitute Sand Key Park which is accessed from Gulf Boulevard. The park contains a picnic area with grills, playground and rest rooms. The beach provides changing facilities, showers and supervision by lifeguards during the season. To one side of the park is a salt marsh which is home to a variety of birds. The beach is a nesting site for sea turtles and is bordered by sea oats.
Parks are open daily from 7:00am to dusk
Admission is free.
There is ample metered parking.
