[mehr]This recently remodeled stone and wood lodge is located in a beautiful mountain valley, surrounded by a an oak, birch and Aspen tree forest, and was originally built in 1920. The lodge is listed on the national Register of Historic Places and is located next to a creek which winds through the valley providing an excellent trout fishing spot. This lodge served as a summer White House for President Coolidge in 1927 and was visited by President Eisenhower for in 1953. Inside the resort accommodations range from stately lodge rooms to modern motel rooms and cozy cabins. Room facilities include air-conditioning, bath tub and private bathroom, cable TV, kitchen with microwave and refrigerator and high-speed internet access. The on-site restuarant serves South Dakota specialities such as buffalo, pheasant and trout. After dinner, relax on the front porch or take a leisurely stoll along the Grace Coolidge Creek, named after the past first lady, which runs through the hotels front yard. Other activities include the popular Buffalo Safari Jeep tours which start at the lodge. These tours track Bison, whilst the guides can inform guests about the park and it's wildlife. The State Game Lodge also provides a convenience store, gift shop, a kitchen laundromat, free parking and handicapped facilities. ***N.B. because the lodge is in Custer State Park, an entrance fee is required***
