[mehr]Archbishop Ryan Park, also commonly known as Merrion Square Park, was originally laid out in 1762. In the early 20th-century it became owned by the Catholic Church and was earmarked as the site for a cathedral, but in 1974 it was presented to the City of Dublin by Archbishop Ryan. The surrounding Merrion Square boasts Georgian buildings which include two museums and various dwellings that were once the habitat of famous personalities.
Covering an area of approximately 11 acres, the park features various sculptures and historical lamp posts. Facilities include a playground and seasonal horticultural displays are presented. The park is open daily from dawn to dusk and admission is free.
