[mehr]The Harpers Ferry National Historical Park was declared in 1963 (having been a National Monument since 1944) and covers an area of 9.26 sq.km with land in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. The Park is accessed via Highway 340 and includes a section of the Appalachian Trail.
Recreational activities such as fishing, rafting, hiking and boating are available and there are guided tours as well as historical museums and organised events. Details of the latter are provided at the website. The Park is open daily from 08h00 to 17h00 except on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Tariffs for individuals are $4.00 and $6.00 per private vehicle.
