The Belfry is all that remains of the medieval Cloth-Halls built in 1307 and destroyed during World War I.

The upper part was rebuilt in 1520. It has a carillon with 48 bells and a statue of Mercurius, god of trade placed on top of the building during the 18th century.The two copper statues striking the hour are Manten and Kalle, two folklore figures of Kortrijk.
At the back of the Belfry is a War memorial dedicated to the victims of World War I.
The Belfry was recognised as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1999.
