[mehr]Lamport Hall is a Grade 1 listed stately home situated about 5 miles north of Northampton on the A508. There was originally a Tudor manor house on the same site but this was developed into the current hall to the designs drawn up by the architect John Webb in 1655 although the hall was not finished until the 18th century.
The hall was owned by the Isham family for over 400 years but in the hands of the Lamport Hall Trust which is a charitable organisation. The grounds are extensive and include gardens originally laid out in the 17th century. The hall has a rockery which is particularly of note as it is the oldest 'alpine' garden in the UK.
The hall hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year including antique and collectors fairs, a steam and country fair and craft fairs. In the summer months they also offer open air jazz and theatre performances on the lawns.
The hall is open on Sundays from Easter through to mid October for guided tours at 2.30 and 3.30 in the afternoon and is also open Monday to Friday in August with tours at 2.30pm. Tickets for the Hall cost £5.50 for adults, £5.00 for seniors and £2.00 for children and disabled access is available for the ground floor only.
