[mehr]This monument on the Sarsfield Bridge in Limerick commemorates the Irish Easter Rising of 1916. Previously this had been the site of a statue to Viscount Fitzgibbon who was killed in the Charge of the Light Brigade in 1854, but that statue was blown up by the IRA in 1930.
The new group was erected in 1930, on the former plinth which remained standing. The block is limestone and the figures bronze. They represent Thomas Clarke, one of the leaders of the Rebellion, and his wife Kathleen Daly who was from Limerick. A figure of a crouching boy completes the group. A new plaque records, in Irish, the Easter Rising and the names of those involved.
