It is an ideal base camp for exploring Costa Rica – its rich interior from Braulio Carillo to Irazú Volcano- its riotous rivers from the Reventazon to the Pacuare- and the Caribbean coast from exotic Limón to the mystical submerged rainforest for Tortuguero. All these diverse areas and attractions are easily reached from the comfort and inviting luxury of Casa Turire.
Guests can start right at the hotel’s doorstep with a stroll through the gardens and the orchards of the estate. Exotic birds and butterflies are regular visitors. Toucans gather in the lacy treetops and noisy parakeets fly overhead. The brilliant orange-and-black Oropendola frequents the trees and shrubs around the spring-fed swimming pool, which lures guests into its refreshing depths.
Trails throughout the plantation are easy to follow and give the rich flavour of the land.
Waterfall hikes and rainforest adventures are also conducted right on plantation property. Horseback treks and expeditions offer the grander perspective, with views from atop with mountains that showcase the whole Turrialba valley. Bicycling can range from a pleasant tour of the local countryside to a power- driven workout on trails that test fitness and endurance.
There are numerous lake activities available to guests at Casa Turire. A dam built on the Reventazón River flooded a huge area forming a 37-meter deep lake. Casa Turire has built a dock and offers numerous non-motorized water-sports – row boats, canoeing.
Sporting challenge is never more intense than on the local rivers. White water rafting in Costa Rica matches any in the world, and Casa Turire is only moments from two premier rivers- The Reventazón and the Pacuare. While the Reventazón boasts class V rapids- at the world class level, and suited only for very experienced rafters-there are less intense routes as well that are appropriate for first-timers. In addition to rafting, kayaks offer another means of enjoying the exquisite scenery. For those who wish to learn to kayak, a Kayak School is located just 20 minutes from Casa Turire. Instruction takes place on a calm and beautiful section of the Pejibaye River. The school provides all necessary equipment and well-qualified instructors.
For those who like their adventure a bit more exotic, Casa Turire may put you in contact with supplier of a private hot air balloon tour. It offers unique perspectives of the local environs. For a deep insight into the rainforest, a hike with seasoned naturalist.

There are numerous tours available in the areas surrounding Casa Turire. Less than ten minutes away from the hotels are C.A.T.I.E and Serpentarium C.A.T.I.E is on the leading tropical agricultural research stations in the world.
Guayabo Archaeological Park is also nearby- a little more than a half hour from the hotel. The principal archaeological site in Costa Rica, Guayabo has fascinating pre-Columbian artefacts from the area, which was inhabited from 1000 BC to 1400 AD, then abandoned. Excavation began more than thirty years ago and is still continuing today. Interpretive guides are recommended for this and all tours and excursions.
No matter how far field guests choose to wander or how strenuous their personal expedition, Casa Turire welcomes the weary adventurers with open arms. It is always nice to be home at the end of a long day.
