[mehr]Ankkarock is a rock festival held in the beginning of August. The festival is known to be the finale of the Finnish festival summer. Ankkarock is held in the city of Vantaa, not so far away from Helsinki. Because of the distance, the festival is very easy to reach while there are several train and bus connections from Helsinki. City of Vantaa provides accomondation possibilities as well.
The very first Ankkarock was organised in 1989 as a free-of-charge concert. Nowadays the festival gathers more than 30 000 visitors during one weekend. In the recent years the most well known artists playing at Ankkarock have been for example Ministry (USA), Nightwish (FIN), HIM (FIN), Dragonforce (UK), The Rasmus (FIN), Hanoi Rocks (FIN), Within Temptation (DEN), Uriah Heep (UK) and Kent (SWE).
The festival area is at the city part called Korso. Small lake is surrounding the area and the overall look is almost like a park. The area is very close to the railway, which makes it easy to get there. On the other hand there is very limited space for parking and the audience is asked to use public transportation as much as possible.
